Treating Gum Disease in Edmonton

Gum disease has a slow progression, and you may not even notice that you have it until it’s too late. Here at Heritage Dental Centre in Edmonton, we offer effective gum therapy, such as curette and root planing, to treat and manage periodontal (gum) disease.

Thorough gum screenings and examinations will help determine what sort of therapies are necessary to eliminate or reduce the amounts of bacteria and plaque that accumulate below the gum-line. When cleaning or brushing your teeth, you are typically only cleaning above the gum line.

Therapies may include curettage and root planing, as well as medications. A curette is the medical removal of infected tissue around the tooth, as the tissue is often chronically irritated by bacteria below the visible gum-line and needs to be removed so that healing can finally occur. Root planing is the removal and smoothing of micro-amounts of root surface so that a clean and un-infected surface is presented to the healing lining of soft tissue.

Heritage Dental Centre’s hygiene team will work with you to assure that you have access to the care that best suits your needs. They will also help you hone your home-care skills so that you can maintain the optimum level of health that you want.
